Authentic Movement is a self-directed movement form that takes place between mover and witness. One person moves with eyes closed in the presence of another; that other is a witness of the mover’s dance.
The power of this form is in its simplicity. In this workshop, we will explore the actions of seeing and being seen, the dynamic interplay that is at the heart of both the therapeutic dyad and performance. As movers, we use the time to be present with whatever moves within us. As witnesses, we learn to acknowledge our own projections, judgments and stories, and practice non-judgmental and descriptive language about what we see. This class allows time and space for discussion about the form. Please bring comfortable clothes to move in.
